I write to our senators and congressman fairly often. The replies are not satisfying, but I continue to do so. Water on stone, grasshopper.
Rep. Dicks,
A quick review shows your focus on the environment, for which, with mixed feelings, I salute you. The two foremost issues we face as nation, and require the Federal Government to represent us in, are terrorism & energy.
I see no congressional leadership on either, and they are intertwined. I have joined the petition to drill here & now, and ask you to support the drilling in Alaska and coastal waters. You can make a difference in this by ensuring the environment is protected in the process. It is immoral to buy oil from other countries on three levels: 1) there is little environmental protection exerted; 2) we send US$ to those who hate us, who support terror, taking it out of our own economy; 3) we send our troops to the mideast, a region of great interest to our security because we depend on its oil.
I read that the Rasmussen report's congressional ratings have predictably slipped into single digits. The only way to reverse the disgust your constituents feel toward your profession is to act in the interest of the country, or step aside for someone else so inclined. It should not be a hard choice, please do what is in the interest of the country. If the issue is not clear, consider it too small for the federal government and pass it by. Focus on what matters to the USA.
Respectfully
Paul Banbury
