Nope, nor will a hand built cafe racer ever have the polish of a stock 1198. Different flavors of usability. I'm a tinkerer. I don't mind small sacrifices there in order to gain more control here.

What I find interesting is that very few people ever vocalize that "ideological" stance (open source vs seamless integrations) have as much (if not more) to do with a business plan as they do with beliefs.

If you are sitting in Android's offices, you are probably pretty aware of consumers' desire for control and you are building to meet it and thus increase market share.

These aren't the 70s (or the 90s) and none of these companies are ambivalent to the bottom line. We should respect the business model of open source as much as we do the ideology.

Thanks Matt,

Damn! this post was supposed to be at www.ExecHobo.com

Business model? I think there is room for both. This market is bifurcated- at least. Apple's works, and I think some are making Android work. I would seriously consider one, if Apple was a little less ideal for me. Certainly would drop Blackberry for an Android device.
