2nd Amendment Upheld

The Supreme Court last week ruled that the 2nd Amendment means what it sez. Citizens have a right to carry a gun. The 2nd Amendment is said by some to ensure the 1st, and all other rights of our constitution. The founding fathers wrote extensively outside of the Constitution, praising the merits of an armed populace in checking the powers of government. Now, thanks to a "rent-a-cop" in Washington DC, and his challenge of the draconian laws there, we have an up to date opinion from the final arbiters of law.

Washington DC, the city with the highest murder rate and the most restrictive gun laws for about 20 years, has appropriately been the stage on which this drama unfolds. It is a place where you can rest assured that the only people who you will meet will be one of two classes:
Armed criminals, or unarmed potential victims.

It is the best place in the country, along with Chicago and San Francisco, to go on a crime spree, if you are looking for a bigger stage to shoot innocent people than the local church or school provides. Until now, you could go to DC, pick anyone you met, or even break into their home, and be pretty well assured they would not be able to defend themselves. Legally. Now this dark era is over, and gunowners can take their guns out of the closet.

The statistics that show gun control is a failed policy that increases death of innocents is overpowering and unfortunately, well established in the records of these cities. An article in the Chicago Tribune covers this and the academic outlook on the second amendment.
We who would defend ourselves, who enjoy the shooting sports, who cherish the basic rights protected from infringement by government in the constitution celebrate this landmark ruling.
