Mini Restaurant Review- Cupcake Royale

A mecca in the trendy world of cupcakes cuisine, in the trendy neighborhood of Ballard.
We felt happy to drop in. An opportunity for "contact cool". Nice cupcake/coffeeshop feel. Basic cement floor, re-used furnishing and fixtures. A cupcake corner case directly greeting you when you enter. Too bad it is sparsely stocked. An opportunity lost.
Cupcakes built with care, look nice. We had a $3 salted caramel. OK cake, almost too dry. Super fine crumb. Vague chocolate flavor. Funny aftertaste. Icing the perfect thickness- 3/8 to 1/2 inch. Caramel colored. Too sweet to have flavor, but it stood up nicely to the 1/4 teaspoon of salt on top.
Really, nothing is better than a good sea salt and caramel. This was not one. Disapointing example of style over substance.
