The Last Dungy

In a controversial season fraught with drama, the catch has been disappointing to say the least. We tried our best bait tricks and carefully established crab picket lines in water known to produce. We suffered certain crab pot piracy. All our best efforts yielded a meager result. And this may be the last crab we catch this season in the bay.

There are still a few pots out there, but it appears the raiders are working with impunity and those crab left are soft or small or female. Soon even the raiders will deem these waters fished out for the season.

It's Crab Season!!!

It was raining at John Wayne Marina when we launched today, just the way we like it in the Northwest- keeps the wimps home.  We soaked the pots for a few hours, then pulled them.  After sorting through well over a hundred females and tiny males, we gleaned 5 keepers out of 10 pots.  Not a good opening day.  The official reports from the WDFW tell us that crabbing is especially good, so we must be anomalous.  Or they are lying.  Which is how they roll.  We will persevere.
