Senior Dinner

Today, we entertained some seniors from a local assisted living home. We were inspired by our friends the Dodds to do this, they make it a regular  practice, and Maryvonne had helped them before. The idea is to give some of the folks who don't get out much a chance to have a really nice meal and a homey place to spend a few hours. Maryvonne likes to entertain and use her silver, dishes, beautiful house, and fantastic cooking art.

The menu she developed:
Our organic garden greens, roasted pecans, fresh picked blueberries, and Maryvonne strawberry vinaigrette
Cranberry/pineapple/orange jello with a garden grown raspberry
Pistachio crusted Halibut caught in the Strait sauteed ala minute, with a brown butter/Champagne sauce
Perfect rice, vinegar slaw, fresh backed foccacia and zucchini breads
Peach Cobbler, fresh baked pecan cookie and home made lemon creams

The fact that so much of the menu was grown in our garden, or picked or caught locally and made fresh, including the bread, was a real hit. It was a real pleasure to see how much enjoyment these folks got from the day, and it was gratifying to hear them express their thanks. They really enjoyed themselves, as did we. We will do this again in December after returning from our trip.
